Teacher Education Events This Summer

Summer professional development for educators.

Make the most of your summer by attending one of Rio Salado College's teacher education classes, workshops or orientation sessions, designed specifically for teachers and those interested in teaching.

All orientation sessions and continued education courses are free to attend.
 
Teacher-in-Residence Orientation
  • Tuesday, July 14, 6:30-8 p.m., Rio Salado College, Conference Center

Rio Salado’s Teacher-In-Residence (TIR) intern program provides a convenient and cost-effective way for students and working professionals with a bachelor’s degree to transition into a K-12 teaching career. Through paid employment opportunities in the classroom, students can earn an income while completing the certification coursework. The program can be completed in two years. Explore Teaching

The Explore Workshop will introduce students to the teaching profession, providing important insight into administrative and classroom expectations, course planning and preparation, student assessment, salary and benefit expectations, etc. The workshop is designed to address many of the concerns and expectations of potential teachers before they fully commit to a certification program and a career in education. A-to-Z Web 2.0

Explore innovative H.O.T. (Handy, Outstanding, Timesaving)Web 2.0 Tools, such as: wikis, Google sites and digitized interactive notebooks, integrated with empowering Active Engagement Instructional Strategies that will help you connect with students and create a challenging and energized classroom environment.

Design your course around outcomes, teach with passion and develop Web 2.0 tools that assist in checking for understanding as your students engage in the lessons. Register by calling 480.517.8140.
 
Moving At-Risk Students Forward
  • Saturday, July 11, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Rio Salado College, Room 515
This workshop will help teachers bring true hope to at-risk youth, adolescents who are less likely to transition successfully into adulthood and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Workshop participants will engage in activities and discussion to better understand the at-risk students’ emotional or behavioral problems, truancy, low academic performance, showing a lack of interest for academics and expressing a disconnection from the school environment.

Learn how to build and motivate student resilience to have a strong sense of purpose and a belief in success; including goal direction, education aspirations, motivation, persistence, and optimism. Register by calling 480.517.8140.
